PrivatePOS

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers for shop owners who want to know exactly how the till works.

Does it work if my internet goes down?

Yes. PrivatePOS works entirely offline. Your database is on your device. You only need internet if you choose to connect your own cloud backup or check for app updates.

What happens if I get a new phone?

Install the app on the new phone, and restore from your encrypted backup file (.pposbak). Or, if you have both phones on the same Wi-Fi, you can pair them and transfer directly.

What if I forget my PIN?

Your PIN unlocks the encrypted database on that specific device. If you lose it, you will need to restore your shop from a backup file.

How do backups work?

A backup is an encrypted .pposbak file saved to a folder you choose on the device. PrivatePOS does not upload that file. Copy it yourself if you want another copy. We never hold the file or the key.

Can I add a second counter or tablet?

Yes, by pairing devices on the same Wi-Fi network or hotspot. The main device shows a QR code, and the second device scans it. They sync locally. No central server is used.

Do you process card or wallet payments?

No. PrivatePOS is not a payment gateway and does not move money. At checkout you record how the customer paid: cash, card, credit, or a local wallet for the shop’s country. The charge itself happens in that wallet or on the card terminal, outside the app.

I run a restaurant. Can it send tickets to the kitchen?

Yes. When you turn on the Restaurant module, you can route items to specific kitchen printers or kitchen display screens (KOT) over your local network.

Can it handle pharmacy expiry dates?

Yes. The Pharmacy module enables batches and expiry date tracking so you can sell oldest stock first and get warnings before medicines expire.

Which countries and languages does it support?

You pick the country and currency when you create the shop. Tax is labeled VAT, GST, or sales tax for that country. The till can run in 30 languages, including English, Bengali, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, Chinese, and French. English and Bengali are built in. Other languages use the in-app phrasebook and fall back to English if a phrase is not translated yet. This website is in English.

Is there a monthly server fee?

There is no PrivatePOS subscription server to pay for. (If a future paid license is introduced, pricing is not published yet).
